Name: Lapis Lazuli
Age: No exact age is given, but based on how she's referred to in canon, she seems to be young, as far as Gems go. If I had to hazard a guess, maybe about 5000?
AU/PG/CANON/OC: Canon: Steven Universe
Summary:
Lapis is, sadly, a very bitter gem. After being trapped in a mirror for a few thousand years, she's very mistrustful of most people and other gems, believing humans to be a bit dull and the Crystal Gems to be traitors, caring more about the Earth than they do their own kind. While she doesn't necessarily hate anyone upon sight, it can take a bit to get her to open up. Kindness is the best way, as proven by Steven, who, through the simple act of being nice and treating her with respect, gained her trust and protection.
She's also capable of being playful as well! While she was in the mirror, she and Steven had a good time copy-catting each other, and making fun of the Mayor during his speech.
Lapis is a passionate gem, not letting anyone get in the way of her goals, and won't hesitate to defend herself or anyone she considers important. She's easily the most powerful gem shown in canon thus far, with her power over water overpowering all three Crystal Gems at once.
She considers Earth to be unimportant, though she's not necessarily hateful of it either. It merely seems small and stifling to her, after having been away from home for so long. Her main motivation is getting home, though when she gets there, she may not find it exactly as she left it...
Please note, I am taking her canon point from the end of the episode 'Ocean Gem', after she leaves Earth but before she reaches the Gem Homeworld.
Gem Considerations: Lapis is already a Gem, meaning she already has a Lapis Lazuli gem on her back, in the shape of a teardrop. Traditionally, Lapis Lazuli is connected with those who are powerful and rich, but it's also widely connected with truth and acceptance. This could be related to her time as a mirror, which is an object that shows nothing more or less than exactly what is reflected in it. Lapis Lazuli is also sited as having physical healing properties, especially in terms of organs in the head, such as the brain and eyes. In terms of a character goal relating to her gem, I'd like her to become more open to others and the world around her.
Power considerations:
List Three Powers You Would Like Your Character To Have:
Lapis already has hydrokinesis from before, but she seems to rely on it for flight as well as as a weapon. As such, I've chosen to exclude flight from the list on the basis that it's an extension of her power over water. Please note, though, that in order to fly, she does need to physically summon wings and flap them.
Image projection stems from her time as a mirror, where she could show someone anything that had happened (that had been seen through the mirror). In this case, I would probably make it so that it was only accessible in pools of water, although, if it's okay with mods, I would like to extend it to include not only past events, but also current events, or even, with some practice, some visions of the future.
Finally, I feel healing powers would help her come out of her shell a bit, and pay more attention to the Earth and those on it rather than focusing only on herself. The healing properties associated with her gem only reinforce this.
Sample:
The sand is soft under Lapis's feet, and it's strange because she thought it'd be sharper than it was. All those little particles shine like glass, but no. It's just sand.
The beach is strange because, while she's never been here before, it -feels- like she has. It's so similar to the one where she'd come back out of that mirror, but no, this is a different beach, in a different town, on a different -world-...
It's not all bad, though. While she still does, desperately, want to go home, she also finds this place, and that temple, strangely comforting, and doesn't necessarily feel the need to leave right away. Soon, though. Soon she'll get out of here. If she can.
For now, though, the afternoon sun is warm on her head, and the sand is soft beneath her feet, and the ocean is smooth and calm before her. She can hear the distant buzz of the sleepy town behind her, going about it's daily business. She's thought about finding something to do there, but the place seems so dull that she didn't think she'd find anything of interest. And anyway, surely she wouldn't be here that long? Maybe another week, at most.
Maybe a little longer. She's still not sure exactly how to leave. Something in her gut told her that flying wouldn't work.
Lapis debates sticking her toes in the water, but decides against it, not wanting to ruin it's smooth surface. If she really wants to, she can always make the water come to her. Or, maybe she can stick her feet in without ruining the view, if she really tries?
No, she thinks. I should really get going. She exhales, and the glassy illusion is broken as the waves begin rolling up the shore again, the tide sweeping over her feet and back out. In the distance, the ocean is still smooth, but here, up against the shore, the white foam makes it easy to see the crests of the waves. Reluctantly, Lapis turns away and back towards the temple, intending to go straight back to her room and perhaps test its boundaries.

Summary:
- At an unspecified point pre-canon, Lapis's gem is broken and she gets put in a mirror.
- The Crystal Gems come into possession of said mirror.
- The mirror is given to Steven, to help him learn about Gem culture. Lapis, still alive inside the mirror, becomes friends with Steven.
- Steven releases Lapis from the mirror. However, her gem is still broken, and upon seeing the Crystal Gems, is thrown into a fit of rage at them for having left her in the mirror, despite knowing very well that she was in there.
- Lapis 'borrows' all of the water in the ocean to build a tower up to the sky, in an attempt to get herself home.
- Steven heals her gem, and she gains back her full powers, enabling her to summon her wings and fly back to her home planet.
